General Questions

Is RI Oil Prices really free to use?

Yes, completely free with no hidden fees. You'll never be charged for browsing prices, creating an account, setting up price alerts, or managing your homeowner profile. All homeowner features are 100% free.

How does RI Oil Prices make money?

We operate on a pay-per-click model. When you click a dealer's phone number or website link, the dealer pays a small fee. This keeps the service free for Rhode Island homeowners while giving dealers a cost-effective way to reach customers.

Do I need to create an account to see prices?

No account is required to browse and compare prices. However, creating a free account takes about 30 seconds and unlocks email price alerts, the weekly digest for your town, and saved home ZIP defaults for your account pages.

Which areas of Rhode Island do you cover?

We cover all of Rhode Island except Block Island. Simply enter your ZIP code on the homepage to see dealers that deliver to your area. Most dealers serve multiple towns, so you'll typically see a range of options regardless of where you live in the state.

Pricing & Updates

How often are prices updated?

Dealers can update pricing in real time through their dashboard, and automated scraper checks run for dealers where scraping is configured. Dealers who do not keep pricing current have their listings paused until pricing is updated, helping keep public rates accurate.

Why do prices vary between dealers?

Prices vary based on several factors: the dealer's wholesale costs, delivery route efficiency, minimum gallon requirements, and business overhead. Some dealers offer lower prices for larger orders of 150+ gallons, while others have flat pricing. Always check the minimum gallon requirement before ordering.

What does the minimum gallon requirement mean?

Most dealers require a minimum order, typically 100-150 gallons, to make delivery economically viable. If you order less than the minimum, you may be charged a small-order fee or the dealer may decline the order. The minimum is clearly displayed on each dealer's listing.

Are the prices shown the final price I'll pay?

The prices shown are the per-gallon rate for cash/COD orders. Your total will be this rate multiplied by gallons ordered. Some dealers may charge extra for credit card payments, typically 2-3%, or offer discounts for automatic delivery programs. Contact the dealer directly to confirm any additional fees.

Price Alerts

How do price alerts work?

Price alerts watch your home town — the one set by the ZIP on your profile. Set a target price per gallon and we email you the moment an active dealer in your town meets it. Each alert fires once, so you won't be spammed with repeated notifications.

Can I set multiple price alerts?

Yes. You can keep several alerts running for your town at different target prices or directions — for example one "time to order" target and a lower "stock-up" target. Delete alerts any time; each deactivates automatically after it fires.

What happens after I receive a price alert?

Once a dealer meets your price threshold and you receive the email notification, that alert is marked inactive with the fired price saved in your account. This is a one-time notification to let you know prices have changed. You can then create a new alert with a different target price if you want to continue monitoring.

What if I move or want to watch a different town?

Update the home ZIP on your profile. Your price alerts and weekly digest follow your home town automatically, so changing the ZIP re-points everything — no need to recreate anything.

Account Tools

What does a free account let me do?

A free account lets you create price alerts, turn on the weekly digest for your town, and save home profile details like your name and ZIP code for quicker account workflows.

Can I unsubscribe from emails?

Yes. Every price alert and weekly digest email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also delete alerts and manage digest subscriptions from your account.

Can I change my home ZIP code?

Yes. Visit your profile page after logging in to update your name or home ZIP code. Your account uses that ZIP to make future homeowner workflows faster.

Ordering & delivery

How do I order oil through RI Oil Prices?

We connect you directly with dealers with no middleman involved. Click a dealer's phone number to call them immediately, or click their website link to visit their online ordering page. The transaction happens between you and the dealer; we simply help you find the best price.

What does the delivery ETA mean?

Each dealer displays their estimated delivery timeframe, such as 1-2 days or same day. This is an estimate for how quickly they can deliver after you place an order. During peak heating season, delivery times may be longer due to high demand.

Are all the dealers on this site legitimate?

Yes. Every dealer on RI Oil Prices is a verified Rhode Island heating oil company with an active business. We display each dealer's authentic Google Business rating and review count so you can evaluate their reputation before ordering.

What if I have a problem with my order?

Since you order directly from the dealer, any issues should be resolved with them directly. We recommend checking Google reviews before ordering and keeping the dealer's contact information handy. If you believe a dealer is misrepresenting their prices on our site, please contact us.

Do dealers offer automatic delivery programs?

Many dealers offer both automatic delivery and will-call service. Automatic delivery is scheduled by the dealer based on your usage so they can deliver before you run out. Will-call means you contact the dealer when you want a delivery. Contact dealers directly to confirm which options and pricing programs they offer.
